Nepali Team Departs for 8th Asian University Basketball Championship in China

KATHMANDU — A five-member Nepali delegation, including four players, departed for Putao, China, on Tuesday to compete in the 8th Asian University Basketball Championship.

The tournament, which features the fast-paced 3x3 format, is scheduled to take place from June 10 to June 15.

The Squad

The roster representing Nepal at the championship includes:

  • Players: Nukesh Jugjali, Dipson KC, Simon Gurung, and Shreyas Bahadur Shah.

  • Coach: Nripesh Shrestha.

Road to the FISU World Cup

According to Purna Singh Bohara, General Secretary of the Nepal University Sports Association, this championship carries high stakes. It serves as the official Asian qualification tournament for the prestigious FISU World Cup, which is set to be held in Macau this October.

Official Farewell

Prior to their departure on Tuesday, a special farewell ceremony was organised to honour the team. National Sports Council (NSC) Member-Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta and Raju Singh, Advisor to the Minister for Education and Sports, jointly wished the athletes success and officially saw them off, expressing high hopes for their performance on the international stage.
