Kathmandu, July 10 – Nepal has been drawn in Group B alongside Kuwait and Japan for the first phase of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Regional Qualifiers, set to take place in Oman from October 8 to 17.
According to the group division officially announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday, a total of nine teams have been divided into three groups:
Group A: United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia, and Qatar
Group B: Nepal, Kuwait, and Japan
Group C: Oman, Papua New Guinea (PNG), and Samoa
The tournament will follow a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the 'Super Six' stage. The top three teams from the Super Six will qualify for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Nepal will look to replicate its recent T20 success under former coach Monty Desai, having played in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year.
The regional qualifiers present a crucial opportunity for Nepal to secure back-to-back World Cup appearances and further establish its standing in global cricket.
