Kathmandu, June 23:
The first-ever Hisense Nepal Saim Inter-College Seven-a-Side Futsal Tournament is set to kick off this Wednesday, with participation from 28 college teams, organizers confirmed during a press conference held on Monday.
The tournament, organized by Saim College, will feature bachelor-level semester-based teams and will be played on a league-cum-knockout format. The matches will take place over three days at Royal Nepal Futsal, located in Divyeshwari Planning, Bhaktapur.
Saim College Principal Ashok Raj Pandey stated that the college has always supported extracurricular activities to help enhance students’ capabilities. “We are excited to host this inaugural edition with enthusiastic participation,” he said.
The teams have been divided into eight groups, and the top performers will vie for attractive cash prizes. The champion team will receive NPR 90,000, the runner-up will take home NPR 40,000, and the third-place team will win NPR 20,000.
Individual awards include
Best Player: NPR 5,000
Best Defender, Top Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper: NPR 3,000 each along with gift vouchers
Best Coach: Trophy and gift voucher
The event is expected to cost around NPR 550,000, according to Vice Principal Bishal Shrestha.
Tournament coordinator Dasharath Shahi noted that while Saim College has previously organized the successful "Saim Premier League" intra-college cricket for five years, this is the first time it is hosting an inter-college futsal event.
In addition to Hisense Nepal as the title sponsor, other partners include Ather Energy, Pathao Nepal, Upps Nepal, Medex Multi-Specialty Clinic & Diagnostic Center, Park Village Resort, Surya Nepal, Jasmine Paints, and Ben Nevis.
