Ananta Tamang Urges ANFA to Hold Domestic League Amid Player Frustration

Kathmandu, October 16.
Nepal national football team defender Ananta Tamang has expressed deep frustration over the ongoing absence of a domestic league in Nepal, which has now lasted nearly three years.

Speaking after Nepal’s recent “home match” in Vietnam, Tamang said that despite challenges off the field, national team players always give their 100 percent on the pitch. However, the lack of a proper domestic league has significantly affected players’ development and morale.

“Over the past three years without a league, many players who started their careers before or alongside me have left the country. Yet, those of us who remain continue to give our best, regardless of the facilities or training conditions,” Tamang said.

He expressed disappointment that Nepal had to play a “home match” abroad in Vietnam, saying:

“I never imagined facing such a situation when I joined the ANFA Academy. Playing home matches overseas while the domestic league remains inactive is deeply discouraging.”

Currently contracted to a club in Bangladesh, Tamang emphasized that individual efforts alone are not enough:

“If players who are supposed to play for the national team cannot participate in regular domestic football, it is unfair to expect good results against top teams. Even struggling teams will be difficult to challenge under such circumstances.”

Tamang urged both ANFA and the domestic clubs to take responsibility and act proactively:

“ANFA must organize the league without hesitation. I also appeal to the clubs—start building your teams and prepare. Force ANFA to hold the league. Otherwise, clubs will remain only on paper, and it will be difficult to even recruit players.”

He concluded by stressing that organizing the league is essential to sustain both the players and the sport in Nepal.
