Arpil Rana Secures Bronze at Asian U-22 Boxing Championship

Kathmandu, August 6 – Nepali boxer Arpil Rana concluded his campaign with a bronze medal in the Men’s U-22 category at the Asian Boxing Championship, currently underway in Bangkok, Thailand.

Competing in the 50 kg weight category, Arpil reached the semifinals but was defeated by Japan’s Sodai Koto in a unanimous 5–0 decision, limiting him to a third-place finish.

Earlier in the tournament, Arpil displayed impressive form, defeating Ibrahim of Saudi Arabia 5–0 in the pre-quarterfinals and Kinley Phuntsho of Bhutan 4–1 in the quarterfinals to secure his spot in the semifinals.

According to Man Bahadur Bhandari, General Secretary of the Nepal Boxing Association, Arpil put up a commendable fight against one of the tournament's strongest contenders.

“The Japanese boxer was a strong favorite for gold in this weight category, and Arpil performed well against such a tough opponent,” Bhandari said.
“Arpil is currently training under the Mission 2020 special program run by the National Sports Council, which has significantly improved the performance of many athletes, including him.”

Arpil’s medal adds to Nepal’s growing presence in international boxing arenas and highlights the progress of youth-level athletes under targeted training initiatives.
