LONDON – The prestigious Nepali cricket tournament in the United Kingdom, the British Gorkhali Cricket League (BGCL), has officially announced Bridge International as its main sponsor.
The sponsorship agreement was formally signed during a special ceremony held in London’s “Little Kathmandu,” marking a significant milestone for the league’s continued growth and development within the Nepali diaspora community.
The event was attended by several prominent figures from the cricketing community. Gulfraaz Riaz, President of the National Asian Cricket Council, praised the contribution of the Nepali community to grassroots cricket in the UK. Simon Jones from the Hampshire Cricket Board and former manager of the England and Wales Cricket Board, Paul Bedford, also commended BGCL for providing a competitive platform for emerging Nepali cricketers.
Christian Rice from the Kent Cricket Foundation, representatives from Kidasha Foundation, and former Portugal cricket captain Madhukar Thapa extended their best wishes for the league’s continued success.
Bhuwan Giri, Chief Executive Officer of Bridge International, expressed confidence that the partnership would help integrate sports and education while creating broader opportunities for young Nepali talents in the UK. Mahesh Giri, President of the institution, described the collaboration as a proud moment in bringing Nepali-origin players together on a professional platform.
BGCL is the first and only 40-over format league in the UK specifically targeting Nepali cricketers. Having successfully completed five editions, the league is affiliated with the Club Cricket Conference and works closely with regional cricket authorities to maintain professional standards.
BGCL President Gam Gurung highlighted the league’s objectives and technical framework during the event, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to delivering a more competitive and professionally managed tournament in upcoming editions.
