Kathmandu – ICC Men's T20 World Cup holders England cricket team secured a place in the semi-finals after defeating Pakistan national cricket team by two wickets in a Super 8 clash at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan posted 164 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Chasing a competitive target of 165 runs, England reached 166 for eight in 19.1 overs to seal a thrilling victory.
England captain Harry Brook led from the front with a magnificent century, scoring 100 runs off 51 deliveries, including 10 fours and four sixes. Despite early setbacks with openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler departing cheaply, Brook’s commanding knock anchored the chase and kept England in control.
Sam Curran contributed 16 runs, while Will Jacks added 28. Liam Dawson scored 1, and Jofra Archer remained unbeaten on 5 as England edged past the target with five balls to spare.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi was the standout performer with the ball, claiming four wickets. Mohammad Nawaz and Usman Tariq picked up two wickets each but were unable to prevent England’s charge.
With back-to-back victories in the Super 8 stage, England advanced to the semi-finals with four points.
