Kathmandu: A historic milestone for Nepalese karate — athletes Erika Gurung (Kumite) and Sanumaya Thing (Kata) have been selected to represent Nepal at the World Karate Federation (WKF) World Karate Championship, to be held in Cairo, Egypt.
Out of 201 countries, only 32 athletes per category are selected to compete in this prestigious global event. Representing Nepal on such a platform marks an extraordinary moment of national pride and recognition for the country's growing karate scene.
Alongside the athletes, coaches Kushal Shrestha and Mande Kaji Shrestha will also accompany the team.
Yuvaraj Lama, president of the Nepal Karate Federation (NKF), extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the entire team, stating:
“Through Erika and Sanumaya, Nepalese karate is set to make history on the international stage. This is not just the pride of our athletes but a moment of honor for the entire nation.”
The federation has also expressed its sincere gratitude to the National Sports Council (NSC) for its continuous support and encouragement throughout this remarkable journey.
