For the first time, women are offered professional contracts in cricket in Scotland

Nine female cricketers have been picked for professional contracts, a first in Scottish cricket history.

The announcement was made official by Cricket Scotland on May 10; it builds on the implementation of equal match prices for men and women in 2021.

February and March saw the selection procedure. Abbi Aitken-Drummond, Loran Jack, Megan McColl, Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, Ailsa Lister, Orla Montgomery, Hannah Rainey, and Ellen Watson are among the accomplished women.

"I'm absolutely delighted that nine of our best women's players have agreed to be the first to sign with Cricket Scotland," said interim head of performance Toby Bailey.

"Given the swift development of women's cricket around the globe, promotion and investment in the women's game in Scotland is now a cornerstone of the organization's strategy, and today's news is a significant step toward ensuring that cricket in Scotland is equitable and inclusive for all."

"We believe this is a major step towards putting the women's game on a fully professional footing," the team said. "Our new setup will enable those players from the women's squad who have signed to devote more time to training and practice."

14 male players have also received professional contracts for 2023–2024.

They are Mark Watt, Chris Sole, Safyaan Sharif, Matthew Cross, Ally Evans, Chris Greaves, Jack Jarvis, Michael Leask, Chris McBride, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, and Richie Berrington.

The schedule for this season has not yet been released by the Scotland women's squad. The World Cup Global Qualifier match between the men and Zimbabwe is scheduled for June 18.
