History-maker Ons Jabeur wins Madrid Open [Upd 1]

Kathmandu, History-maker Tunisia's Ons Jabeur (world's 10th) won the Madrid Tennis Open, after defeating world's 14th US Jessica Pegula (7-5/0-6/6-2) at the final game on Saturday evening, becoming the first Arab and African player to win a WTA 1000 tournament.

Jabeur has moved up to seventh place in the WTA ranking by collecting 95 additional points.

She won her first WTA title at the 2021 Birmingham Classic, becoming the first Arab woman to win a WTA Tour title.

Jabeur swept past No. 45 Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia) 6-2, 6-3 in one hour on Thursday to become the latest top 10 player to qualify for the most prestigious final of her career in Madrid.
