ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers : Nepal will take on Zimbabwe

Kathmandu, In the opening game of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 on Sunday at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe, Nepal's national men's cricket team will take on Zimbabwe.

If the team that has already traveled to Zimbabwe finishes in the top two, Nepal's ambition of competing in the One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup would come true.

The captain of Nepal's national men's cricket team, Rohit Paudel, expressed excitement about playing against some top cricketing nations and a desire to advance to the championship.

"For the previous couple of years, we have been working incredibly hard for this competition, and this is the day that it has finally paid off. Before the crucial encounter against the hosts, Zimbabwe, Captain Paudel remarked, "We value this chance and want to make the most of it. We are all extremely thrilled to play against some top cricketing nations and are looking forward to the tournament.

Craig Ervine, the captain of Zimbabwe, says that his team is well-prepared for the qualifiers. "There is some really exciting cricket coming up and exciting players to watch in Sikandar Raza, Blessing Muzarabani, and Sean Williams," said the organizers of the competition. Before the game, Captain Ervine predicted a fantastic tournament.

Prior to 2018, Nepal only played Zimbabwe once in a 50-over cricket match as part of the ICC Men's World Cup Qualifiers. Due to Nepal's lack of ODI status in 2018, their opening game was a list "A" match between Zimbabwe, the hosts, and Nepal. On March 4, 2018, Nepal and Zimbabwe played their first match. Zimbabwe defeated Nepal by 116 runs.

Nepal's cricket team wants to get off to a great start in the qualifications by defeating host Zimbabwe in their opening match of the competition against the World Cup-experienced Zimbabwe.

Ten teams, including the host Zimbabwe, Nepal, the Netherlands, the United States of America, the West Indies, Ireland, Oman, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates, will compete for the championship.

Along with the host nation Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, the United States of America, and the West Indies, Nepal was in group 'A', which was the group of death. In a similar vein, group "B" includes the United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Oman, Ireland, Oman, and Sri Lanka.

The bottom two teams in each group will compete to determine the seventh through tenth slots, with the top three teams in each group moving on to the Super Six round.

The teams will face three qualifiers from the opposing group during the Super Six stage. Beginning on June 29, all matches in the Super Six stage and beyond will utilize DRS for the first time in this competition.

In order to qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2023, the top two teams following the Super Six stage will be allowed to purchase their flights to India. On July 9, they will compete to be named the winners of the qualifiers.
