India Defeat Australia by 48 Runs to Take 2–1 Lead in T20 Series

Kathmandu, Nov 6 — India defeated Australia by 48 runs in the fourth T20 international at Queensland, taking a 2–1 lead in the five-match series.

Chasing a target of 168 runs, Australia was restricted to 119 in 18.2 overs. Captain Mitchell Marsh scored 30, and Matt Short added 25, while the rest of the batting lineup failed to make an impact. The last five batsmen could not even reach double figures.

India’s spin attack played a crucial role in bowling out Australia:

  • Washington Sundar: 3 wickets for 3 runs in 1.2 overs

  • Axar Patel: 2 wickets

  • Varun Chakravarthy: 1 wicket

  • Shivam Dube: 2 wickets

Pace bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took 1 wicket each.

Australia had elected to bowl first after winning the toss. For India, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma provided a strong start, putting together 56 runs for the first wicket. Abhishek scored 28 off 21 balls before being dismissed. India kept losing wickets at intervals and finished 167/8 in 20 overs, with Shubman Gill top-scoring with 46 off 39 balls. Shivam Dube scored 22, captain Suryakumar Yadav added 20, and Axar Patel remained unbeaten at 21.

For Australia, Nathan Ellis picked up 3 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs, while Adam Zampa took 3 wickets but conceded 45 runs in 4 overs. Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis claimed 1 wicket each.

The first match of the series had been washed out due to rain. The fifth and final T20 will be played on Saturday.
