Jhapa Gold Cup: Sankata into semifinals

Jhapa, Sankata Club of Kathmandu has entered the semifinals of the 5th Nepal Ice Jhapa Gold Cup football tournament underway here.

Sankata reached the semi-finals by defeating Three Star Club 2-0 in the quarter-final match played at Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium today.

Sankata took a 1-0 lead in the first half and scored another goal in the second half. Foreign recruits Yannick and Fode Fofona scored for Sankata. Yannick scored the first goal in the 25th minute of the match. Fode Fofona added another goal in the 63rd minute of the match.

Goalkeeper Rohit Karki was been declared the player of the match for today's game. He received Rs 9,999 in cash.

In the post-match conference held after the game, coach of Three Star Club, Rabindra Silpkar, said that there was no coordination among the players due to long gap after the national league. Sankata's coach Salyan Khadgi said that the game was very competitive and the goal scored by Sankata in the first half was the turning point.

The second quarter-final match will be played between Tribhuvan Army Football Club and MFC of Darjeeling, India on Wednesday, said Binod Basnet, chairperson of the organizing committee.

The organizers had given free admission to the female spectators on the occasion of International Women's Day today. Likewise, the chairperson of the program, the chief guest and all the guests were women only.
