Kathmandu, August 13 – Kathmandu Spikers have signed Kazakh volleyball player Alena Kolotizhina as their second foreign recruit for the upcoming Everest Women’s Volleyball League (EWVL). The league’s second edition is scheduled to take place from September 5 to 13 (Bhadra 20–28).
Alena, 29, plays as an opposite hitter and has previously represented top Kazakh clubs such as VC Konyas and Astana, as well as competed in the AVC Women’s Champions League, showcasing her international experience.
Earlier, Kathmandu Spikers had already signed Nekova Nikolaeva, a setter from Bulgaria. With the addition of Alena, the team believes its lineup is now more balanced and competitive heading into the tournament.
According to EWVL regulations, teams are allowed to sign up to three foreign players, and Kathmandu Spikers are expected to announce their third and final foreign signing soon.
After finishing third in the inaugural season, Kathmandu Spikers are aiming for a stronger showing this time. To bolster their campaign, the team has appointed Lok Bahadur Budha as head coach.
The squad is led by Usha Bhandari, a star spiker from the Nepali national team, and includes other prominent domestic players like Manisha Chaudhary, Yamuna Rasailee, Rima Kunwar, Balmika Acharya, Kamala Pun, Ashika Kshetri, and Bhuvaneshwari Chand.
The Everest Women’s Volleyball League, organized by the Vatsalya Foundation, continues to gain prominence as Nepal’s premier platform for professional women's volleyball, drawing growing interest from both domestic and international talents.
