Kushal Bhurtel Shines as Nepal Thrashes UAE by 8 Wickets to Level T20I Series

KATHMANDU, April 21, 2026 – A dominant all-around performance led by Kushal Bhurtel’s explosive half-century and Sandeep Lamichhane’s clinical bowling saw Nepal secure a commanding 8-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second T20I at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

With this win, Nepal has successfully leveled the two-match series 1–1.

Lamichhane’s Masterclass Restricts UAE

After being put into bat first, the UAE struggled to find momentum against a disciplined Nepali bowling attack. The visitors managed to post 128/8 in their allotted 20 overs. While Akshdeep Nath played a fighting unbeaten knock of 53 runs and Muhammad Arfan contributed 32, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled.

The star of the first innings was Sandeep Lamichhane, who delivered a world-class spell, claiming 3 wickets for just 6 runs in his 4 overs. Hemant Dhami supported well with 2 wickets, while Nandan Yadav and Shahab Alam chipped in with one wicket each.

Bhurtel Powers the Chase

Chasing a modest target of 129, Nepal made light work of the UAE bowlers. Opener Kushal Bhurtel was the hero of the chase, smashing an unbeaten 84 runs off 57 balls, decorated with 12 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Nepal reached the target in just 15.5 overs. Kushal Malla added 19 runs to the total, while captain Dipendra Singh Airee remained unbeaten on 23 to see the team home with 25 balls to spare.

Series Comeback

Having lost the opening match of the series, this victory marks a significant comeback for the Rhinos. Nepal maintained control from the first ball of the match, delighting the home crowd in Kirtipur and demonstrating their strength ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
