Laligurans National Academy Honors Medal-Winning Athletes and Coaches

Kathmandu, June 28 – Laligurans National Academy has honored its student-athletes and coaches who secured medals at the 15th Central Presidential Running Shield Sports Competition.

During a special program held on Saturday in Samakhusi, a total of 11 athletes and 3 coaches were recognized under the National Sports Talent Award. The event was attended by Tarkeshwor Municipality Mayor Krishna Hari Maharjan and the academy’s principal, Gopal Budhathoki, among others.

Honored Athletes:

Athletes who received certificates of recognition include

  • Anisha Tharu, Dina Gopali, Bhagwati Khadka, Asmita Bhujel, Avinash Sunar, Sant Bahadur Darai, Neeraj Shah, Dipendra Giri, Sharmila BK, Shailesh Shrestha (all athletics), and

  • Anu Moktan (Wushu—48kg category).

Honored Coaches:

  • Sitaram Chaudhary and Devi Basnet (Athletics)

  • Subash Magar (Wushu)

Medal Achievements:

At the Running Shield competition held under the Ministry of Youth and Sports and organized by the National Sports Council, Laligurans athletes excelled in athletics by securing

  • 10 gold medals

  • 5 silver medals

  • 2 bronze medals

Additionally, in Wushu, the academy bagged 1 gold medal.

Impressively, Laligurans athletes also set 6 new national records during the event.

Record-Breaking Performances:

  • Anisha Tharu won 4 golds and 1 silver, excelling in long jump, triple jump, 4x400m relay, and 4x100m relay. She set junior national records in the triple jump and both relay events.

  • Dina Gopali claimed golds in the 100m, 200m, and both relay events.

  • Bhagwati Khadka won relay gold and silver in 800m and 1500m.

  • Asmita Bhujel won gold in the 4x400m relay and silver in the 3000m run.

  • Avinash Sunar earned silver in high jump and bronze in triple jump.

  • Sant Bahadur Darai and Neeraj Shah were part of the gold-winning relay teams.

  • Dipendra Giri won bronze in the triple jump, and Sharmila BK won silver in a provincial-level 3000m run.

  • Anu Moktan secured gold in the 48 kg weight category of Wushu.

Laligurans National Academy’s commitment to nurturing sports talent was praised by local officials, with Mayor Maharjan noting that "such recognition builds the foundation for future national athletes."

The academy reaffirmed its dedication to fostering excellence in both academics and athletics.
