Kathmandu, November 6 —
Lumbini Lions have appointed former Indian cricketer and veteran coach Robin Singh as the team’s mentor for the upcoming second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), scheduled to take place from November 16 to December 12 (Mangsir 1–27).
The 62-year-old brings decades of international coaching experience. Robin Singh has previously coached the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He has also served as the head coach and director of cricket for the UAE national team, guiding them to the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
After retiring from professional cricket, Singh began his coaching career with India’s U-19 team, later coaching Hong Kong in 2004, helping them qualify for the Asia Cup. He was also India’s fielding coach in 2007 and 2008, including during their 2007 T20 World Cup-winning campaign.
In the IPL’s inaugural season (2008), Singh coached Deccan Chargers, later joining Mumbai Indians as head coach in 2010, where he spent three seasons.
Lumbini Lions have already announced Nepal national team captain Rohit Kumar Paudel as their marquee player for the NPL. The franchise has also signed Australian all-rounder D’Arcy Short and Italian pacer Thomas Draca as foreign recruits, with additional overseas signings to be revealed soon.
With Robin Singh’s appointment, Lumbini Lions aim to build a competitive and well-balanced side capable of contending for the NPL title.
