Lumbini Lions Secure 3-Wicket Victory in Second Nepal Premier League
Kathmandu—Lumbini Lions claimed a much-needed win by defeating Pokhara by 3 wickets in the first match of the day in the second Nepal Premier League (NPL).
In the match held on Saturday at the TU Cricket Ground, Lumbini Lions chased down the target by scoring 151 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 19.4 overs. Earlier, losing the toss and being put in to bat, Pokhara posted 150 runs on the board, losing 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
This was Pokhara’s fourth match of the tournament, where they had registered one win and suffered two losses prior to today’s game. Lumbini, on the other hand, played their fifth match, with just one win and three consecutive defeats before this victory. Both teams were under pressure to secure a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
For Lumbini, this match was crucial for staying in the playoff race. A loss would have reduced their chances to mere mathematical possibilities. Coming from the bottom position in the previous edition, Lumbini had been under added pressure to perform. Pokhara, with only one win so far, also faced equal urgency to win.
In the current points table, Pokhara stands in sixth position, while Lumbini occupies the seventh spot.
