Pokhara, August 21: Madhesh United has officially signed Danique Ardema of the Netherlands as their second international player for the upcoming second edition of the Vatsalya Everest Women’s Volleyball League (EWVL). The team announced Ardema’s signing as part of their final squad build-up ahead of the tournament, set to take place in Pokhara from Bhadra 20 to 28 (September 5–13).

Standing 175 cm tall, Ardema is a seasoned setter with extensive playing experience across top-tier clubs in the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany. She currently plays for Sudosa-Desto, a prominent club in the Dutch top division, and was part of the Netherlands youth national team that clinched the national championship in 2024.

Earlier, Madhesh United had announced the signing of Romy Veenstra, also from the Netherlands, as their first foreign player — a powerful outside hitter. The addition of Ardema further strengthens the team’s international lineup, with hopes high that her experience and strategic playmaking will drive the team’s tempo and tactics from the court.

Expressing delight at joining the team, Ardema said she is thrilled to be part of the Everest Women’s Volleyball League and excited to contribute significantly to Madhesh United’s title ambitions. She also shared her desire to help promote and grow the volleyball culture in Nepal.

“We are excited to have a player of Danique’s caliber join us,” Madhesh United said in a statement. “Her presence as the main setter will be vital in orchestrating our attack and anchoring our strategy throughout the league.”

Madhesh United’s marquee player is Niruta Thagunna, while model and actress Niti Shah serves as the team’s brand ambassador. The team is coached by Kopila Upreti.
