Kathmandu – The Fourth Mount Everest International Taekwondo Championship (WT G1) and the Second Mount Everest GCS International Poomsae Championship (WT G1) began on Monday under the organization of the Nepal Taekwondo Association.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Ram Chandra Mehta, Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council, amid a special ceremony.
A total of 1,002 athletes from 23 countries are participating in the event. The competition features 74 medal events across both Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae categories.
The championship is being held at the covered hall of the National Sports Council in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
In the Under-40 Mixed Poomsae category, Nepal’s Jit Bahadur Bot and Sita Tamang secured the gold medal. Nepal also claimed gold in the Men’s Team Poomsae event through Jit Bahadur Bot, Prem Bahadur Limbu, and Anjan Chaudhary.
In the Under-40 Individual Poomsae, Hong Kong’s Li Lai Kong won gold in the women’s division, while Nepal’s Prem Bahadur Limbu topped the men’s category.
Malaysia dominated several events in the Under-30 division, with Hau Ken Chau winning gold in the men’s individual category. Malaysia also secured gold in the Under-30 Men’s Team and Under-30 Mixed Pair Poomsae events.
The WT G1 status of the tournament adds significant value, as athletes can earn world ranking points, making the championship an important platform for international competitors.
