Nepal's Boxer April Rana Starts Winning Streak at Asian Boxing Championship in Bangkok

Kathmandu – August 2, 2025

Nepali boxer April Rana has made a strong start at the ongoing Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships being held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Competing in the 50 kg weight category, Rana secured a commanding 5–0 victory over Ibrahim from Saudi Arabia, according to international boxing coordinator Shyam Kaji Awale. With this win, Rana has advanced to the quarterfinals, where she will face a boxer from Bhutan. A win in that match will ensure at least a bronze medal for Nepal.

Meanwhile, in the U-19 category, Nepal’s Sherp Sherpa lost to his Filipino opponent in the 60 kg division by RSC (Referee Stops Contest) on August 1.

Led by IBA Three-Star Coach Deepak Maharjan, Nepal’s national boxing team, consisting of four boxers and one official, departed for Bangkok on July 30. According to coordinator Awale, the championship has brought together over 500 athletes from 25 countries, making it one of the largest youth boxing events in the region.

The tournament is seen as a key platform for emerging boxing talents in Asia and a crucial step in Nepal's continued growth in international boxing.
