Nepal Army Crowned Champions in First-Ever National Women’s 5s-Side Indoor Hockey Tournament

Bhaktapur, Nepal –
The Nepal Army has emerged as the champion of the first-ever National Women's 5s Side Indoor Hockey Tournament held in Nepal. In a thrilling final, Nepal Army defeated Sudurpaschim Province with a scoreline of 2–0 to claim the title.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Nepal Army dominated Koshi Province with a resounding 6–0 victory, while Sudurpaschim edged past Gandaki Province 2–1 to secure their place in the final.

The tournament was officially inaugurated by Dhruba Acharya, vice president of the National Sports Council (NSC), at a special event held at Mid-Valley College, Thimi, Bhaktapur. The awards and trophies were presented by NSC Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising.

According to Suvarna Shrestha, Executive Member of NSC and General Secretary of the Nepal Hockey Association, the champion team received a cash prize of NPR 50,000, while the runner-up was awarded NPR 25,000.

Individual Awards:

  • Top Scorer: Ashika S.K. (Sudurpaschim Province) – 8 goals

  • Player of the Tournament: Saraswati Tamang (Nepal Army)

  • Best Defender: Purnima Negi (Sudurpaschim Province)

  • Best Goalkeeper: Kushma Rana Magar (Nepal Army)

  • Emerging Player: Sapana Tamang (Bagmati Province)

All individual winners were honored with trophies in recognition of their outstanding performances.

This landmark event marks a significant step for women’s hockey in Nepal, promoting inclusivity, competitiveness, and growth in a sport still in its developing stages in the country.
