Nepal Athletics Team Heads to India for 3rd Open Relay Championship

Kathmandu — A 14-member Nepali athletics team, including 11 athletes, is set to travel to Chandigarh, India on Thursday to participate in the 3rd Open Relay Championship.

The competition, scheduled for March 28, will feature seven male athletes: Shivraj Parki, Sushil KC, Aadesh Yadav, Arun Mahto Tharu, Prem Sunar, Prakash Danuwar, and Sanjiv Nepali. The female contingent includes Seema Chaudhary, Anisha Bik, Sumitrakumari Chaudhary, and Bhagrathi Chaudhary.

Nepal will compete in men’s, women’s, and mixed categories, specifically in the 4x100 meters and 4x400 meters relay events.

The team is being guided by coaches Ushakumari Karn, Budhakumari Ghimire, and Bimala Rana Magar.

The farewell ceremony on Wednesday was attended by Ramchitra Mehta, Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC); Rajiv Bikram Shah, President of the Nepal Athletics Association and Minister for Finance and Planning of Karnali Province; and Kamal Bahadur Bhattarai, member of the NSC Executive Committee. Other NSC members, including Bhan Bahadur Chand, Jagat Singh Dhami, Jagat Tamta, and Sant Kumar Mehta, were also present to see off the team.

Nepal hopes for a strong showing in the championship and aims to gain international experience for its young athletes.
