Nepal Earns First Win in AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers

Kathmandu, August 8 – Nepal registered its first victory in the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, keeping alive its hopes of securing a spot in next year’s tournament in Thailand.

On Friday, in the Group ‘A’ third match held at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Nepal edged past Saudi Arabia with a narrow 1–0 win.

With this result, Nepal climbed to the top of the group standings with four points from two matches. Earlier, Nepal had played to a 1–1 draw against hosts Bhutan in their opening game.

The loss marked Saudi Arabia’s second consecutive defeat, ending their chances of qualifying for the Asian Cup. In their previous match, they had suffered a humiliating 15–0 loss against North Korea.

Nepal had a chance to take the lead in the first half, but striker Meena Deuba failed to convert a penalty. The breakthrough came only in the second half, sealing the crucial win for Nepal.
