Nepal Qualify for T20 World Cup for the Third Time
Kathmandu, October 14 — Nepal has qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the third time in history after results in the Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier went in their favor on Wednesday.
The historic confirmation came after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) defeated Samoa by 77 runs in the ongoing Super Six stage in Oman, securing Nepal’s place in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
This will be Nepal’s second consecutive T20 World Cup appearance, having also featured in the 2024 edition. The Himalayan nation first appeared in the tournament in 2014.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Along with Nepal, hosts Oman have also confirmed their place in the tournament, both teams qualifying with two matches to spare.
UAE’s victory over Samoa sealed Nepal’s qualification. Chasing a target of 226 runs, Samoa were restricted to 148 for 8 in their full 20 overs.
With that result, the UAE and Japan will now battle for the remaining qualification spot from the group.
In the Super Six standings, Oman and Nepal both sit at the top with six points each, while UAE trails with four points.
Nepal are set to face Oman later today and will play their final Super Six match against Samoa on Friday. UAE, meanwhile, will take on Japan in their last fixture.
