Nepal Suffer Nine-Wicket Defeat Against West Indies in T20 World Cup

Kathmandu: Nepal suffered a nine-wicket defeat against West Indies in the ongoing T20 World Cup, held across India and Sri Lanka. With this win, West Indies have secured a spot in the Super 8 stage, while Nepal has been eliminated from the race with one game remaining.

West Indies claimed victory with a dominant performance, earning six points from three consecutive wins in Group C. Nepal, meanwhile, lost all three of their group matches. Nepal had narrowly lost to England by 4 runs in their opening game and suffered a 10-wicket defeat against Italy in their second match. West Indies, on the other hand, defeated Scotland by 35 runs and England by 30 runs in their previous games.

Chasing a target of 134, West Indies reached the total in just 15.2 overs while losing only one wicket. Captain Shai Hope played a brilliant innings, remaining unbeaten on 61 runs off 44 balls. Shimron Hetmyer also remained not out with 46 runs, while Brandon King contributed 22 runs. Nepal’s sole wicket was taken by Nandan Yadav.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Nepal batted first at the Wankhede Stadium, posting 133/8 in 20 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee played a stellar innings, scoring 58 runs off 47 balls, becoming only the second Nepalese player to score a fifty in a T20 World Cup, following Suwas Khakurel in 2014. Sompal Kami remained unbeaten on 26, while Lokesh Bam scored 13, Asif Sheikh 11, Rohit Paudel 5, Arif Sheikh 2, and Kushal Bhurtel 1 run. Gulshan Jhyal added 11 runs.

On the bowling front, Jason Holder claimed four wickets, while Akil Hossain, Matthew Forde, Samer Joseph, and Roston Chase took one wicket each.

With this win, West Indies continue their strong run in the tournament, while Nepal will look to regroup for future matches.
