Nepal Suffers Second Consecutive Defeat, Loses to UAE by Five Wickets

Dubai, October 30 — Nepal faced its second consecutive defeat in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series in Dubai, going down to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by five wickets on Monday.

After losing their first match against the United States by 106 runs, Nepal once again failed to capitalize on a decent total and slipped to another loss.

Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal managed 233 runs in 50 overs before being bowled out. Captain Rohit Paudel continued his fine form, scoring a brilliant 109 runs — his second ODI century. Opener Aasif Sheikh added 35 runs, while Arif Sheikh scored 27, but other batters failed to make significant contributions.

Chasing 234 for victory, the UAE comfortably reached the target in 43.3 overs, losing just five wickets in the process. Aryams Sharma starred with the bat, scoring a match-winning 98 runs off 98 balls, including 10 fours and 3 sixes.

For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets, while Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed one each.

With this win, the UAE climbed to 8 points from 18 matches, while Nepal remains in seventh position with 12 points.

Nepal will next face the United States on November 1 (Saturday) and play its final match of the series against the UAE on November 5 (Wednesday).

In the ICC World Cup League 2 standings, the USA currently leads with 32 points from 22 matches, followed by Scotland (30 points from 24 matches) and the Netherlands (28 points from 24 matches). The top four teams in the League 2 table will directly qualify for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
