Nepal wins their first medal at the 19th Asian Games

Kathmandu, Nepal, has finally been successful in bagging a medal in the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Nepal received a bronze medal in women's kabaddi.

In the semifinal, Nepal was defeated by India in the women's kabaddi, thereby being limited to a bronze medal. India defeated Nepal by 61–17 points.

Nepal had entered the semifinals as the first runner-up under group 'B'. Similarly, India had entered the seminal as the winner of group 'A'.

All four teams playing semi-finals in Kabaddi are entitled to medals.

It is the first time Nepal has participated in the Asian Games under the women kabaddi.

Group 'B' has Iran and Bangladesh as well. As the winner of group 'B', Iran got entry to the semifinal. Now, it is playing with the first runner-up of group 'A', Chinese Taipei.

The players in the Nepali team are Menuka Kumari Rajbanshi (captain), Manmati Bista, Jayanti Badu, Sunita Thapa, Rabina Chaudhari, Anuja Kulung Rai, Ganga Rai, Nitu Gurung, Isha Rai, Arpana Chaudhari, Sirjana Tharu, and Kalawati Pant. The team instructor is Bishnu Datt Bhatta.
