Nepali Martial Artist Kamal Magar Honored with Cash Award in the U.S.

New York, June 23:

Renowned Nepali Uma Kung Fu athlete Kamal Magar has been honored with a cash award in the United States for his significant contribution to the development and promotion of Uma Kung Fu in Nepal and for earning international accolades that have brought pride to the nation.

Magar was felicitated with a cash prize of NPR 274,000 (approx. USD 2,050) by senior legal practitioner Khagendra Gharti Chhetri, Siddhartha Lama, and others in the U.S. Among the contributors, Chhetri donated NPR 102,750 and Lama contributed NPR 68,500.

The felicitation ceremony was held at the Champion Martial Arts Club, USA, in New York, where Kamal received a letter of appreciation and the cash award. On the occasion, New York State Assembly Member Hon. Steven V. Raga also presented Kamal with a "Certificate of Merit" in recognition of his achievements.

Additionally, during the "Himalayan Street Fair – Hamro Mela" held in Jackson Heights, New York, Queens Borough President Hon. Donovan Richards awarded Kamal with a "Citation of Honor."

Expressing his gratitude, Kamal thanked the Champion Martial Arts Club and its president, 11th South Asian Games gold medalist Sunil Lama, along with the club family. He stated that such recognition serves as motivation for athletes to move forward in their careers and urged continued support for Nepali sports talents.

President Lama praised Kamal as a dedicated, responsible, and supportive athlete whose achievements have brought international recognition to Nepal. He also said Kamal’s journey is an inspiration for future generations.

Originally from Dudhkund Municipality-10 in Solukhumbu, Kamal is a 4th Dan black belt and is equally active as a trainer and judge. According to Siddhartha Lama, Vice President of the Nepal Uma Kung Fu Association, Kamal has made outstanding contributions both inside and outside the ring.

Magar has secured gold medals in several prestigious international events, including the International Battle of Daytona (USA), European Championship (UK), WMAC Pandemic Games (Austria), 13th World Martial Arts Games (Croatia), 12th WMA World Championship (UK), and the 7th World Kung Fu Championship (Thailand).

As a judge, he has served in various tournaments such as national Uma Kung Fu championships, Uma World Championship in Greece, the 14th National Kung Fu Championship in India, and the Kempo Khukuri Championship, among others.

Kamal also received specialized training at the Beijing Shaolin Wushu School in China, where he mastered advanced techniques including Xiangxingquan, Broadsword, Double Section Staff, Nine Section Whip, Kung Fu Fan, Kudgel, and Qigong.

Currently, he serves as the General Secretary of the Nepal Uma Kung Fu Association.
