The 55-year-old runner covered an approximate distance of 450 kilometers, finishing his journey on the occasion of Ram Navami (Chaitra 13). After completing the one-way run, Karki returned to Nepal on Sunday.
Karki undertook this endurance run as part of a campaign to raise support for the construction of a 27-foot-tall brass mace (gada) at a Hanuman temple he built himself in Karkitar, Godamchaur, Ward No. 1 of Godawari Municipality in Lalitpur. The temple project remains ongoing, and the run to Ayodhya was aimed at continuing fundraising efforts.
This is not Karki’s first remarkable feat. He has previously completed multiple long-distance runs across Nepal, including five runs from Lalitpur to Janakpur, three from Kathmandu to Dolakha, one from Kathmandu to Butwal, three from Kathmandu to Sindhuli, and another from Kathmandu to Uttar Pradesh.
In addition, he has run from Kathmandu through West Bengal, India, up to the Bhutan border at Phuentsholing. According to Karki, in 2007 (2064 B.S.), he completed an extraordinary nationwide run, covering all 75 districts of Nepal in 101 days.
Karki’s continued dedication to endurance running and social causes has made him a unique figure in Nepal’s sporting landscape.
