NOC Strongly Objects to Unauthorized Formation of Ad-Hoc Committee in Its Name

Kathmandu, August 13 – The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed serious objection to the recent publicity surrounding the alleged formation of an ad hoc committee in its name, as mentioned in a press release issued on August 11 (2082/04/27).

In an official statement signed by NOC Secretary General Rajiv Shrestha, the Committee stated that the currently functioning NOC—registered under the National Sports Council (NSC) and led by President Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Secretary General Mr. Rajiv Shrestha—is the only legitimate Olympic body of Nepal.

The NOC emphasized that it is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). These international statutes also confirm that only one Olympic Committee can be recognized per country.

Formation of an Ad-Hoc Committee by Unauthorized Groups is Invalid

The statement strongly condemned the attempt to form an alternative committee, calling it entirely illegal and misleading. “No unauthorized group or gathering has the authority to form an ad hoc committee under the name of NOC,” the statement read, warning that such actions create confusion in Nepal’s Olympic sports ecosystem.

The NOC also raised objections over the unauthorized use of its official letterhead, Olympic rings, logo, and flag, clarifying that these are intellectual properties of the IOC and can only be used by the officially recognized NOC-Nepal.

Call for Clarity and Cooperation

The statement urged all national sports federations, athletes, coaches, and sports stakeholders not to be misled by such unauthorized activities. It called for continued cooperation only with the internationally recognized NOC, which has consistently ensured Nepal’s participation in international Olympic events.

“The NOC of Nepal remains solely responsible for safeguarding athletes’ rights and representing the nation in global Olympic activities,” the statement concluded.
