Olympic Day 2025 Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, June 23 – Olympic Day 2025 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur in Kathmandu on Monday under the initiative of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC). June 23 is globally observed as Olympic Day, commemorating the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and promoting Olympic values.
In Nepal, various events were held to mark the occasion, bringing together athletes, coaches, referees, sports journalists, and well-wishers of Nepali sports. A large rally was organized, which began from the southern side of the Swayambhu Stupa and concluded at the Dallu Covered Hall. The rally was inaugurated by NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha.
A special cycling rally was also held as part of the celebration. During the formal ceremony at Dallu Covered Hall, NOC Vice President and coordinator of Olympic Day celebrations, Ashok Bajracharya, hoisted the national flag of Nepal, while President Shrestha raised the Olympic flag.
Addressing the gathering, NOC Secretary General Rajeev Shrestha emphasized that Olympic Day is more than just a date on the calendar—it is a movement. "This is a movement that inspires us to engage in sports, live healthy and active lives, and promote physical activity," he said.
President Shrestha highlighted the importance of the Olympic spirit in society, saying, "Celebrating Olympic Day means promoting healthy living and peace. It inspires unity and harmony among people, and thus holds significant importance."
The event featured performances in martial arts such as Karate, Wushu, and Judo, along with B-boying dance performances. Students from Galaxy School also presented cultural dances. All participants of the Olympic Day 2025 celebration were honored with certificates of appreciation.
Various sports federations under the NOC and other affiliated organizations collaborated to organize a series of events to mark the occasion.
