Oman Experimenting with New Combinations Ahead of CWC League 2, Says Vinayak Shukla

KATHMANDU – As the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 approaches, the Omani national team is utilizing its practice matches in Nepal to test bench strength and tactical variations. Following a challenging encounter against Nepal ‘A’, Omani cricketer Vinayak Shukla highlighted that the team is prioritizing long-term preparation over immediate results.

A Crucial 'Reality Check'

Speaking after the match, Shukla described the games as a vital "reality check" for the squad. He noted that the team has intentionally deviated from its standard operating procedures to give newcomers a chance. "We are trying so many things. If you look into our batting lineup, it’s not the regular lineup that we usually play," Shukla stated.

He emphasized that while the second game was tough, it provided the coaching staff with necessary insights into different player combinations.

Praise for Nepal ‘A’ Performance

Nepal ‘A’ posted a formidable total of over 280 runs, a feat Shukla credited to the disciplined batting of the hosts. He specifically pointed out the performances of Dev Khanal and Ishan Pandey, noting that they played exceptionally well after a difficult first 10 overs where the wicket seemed tricky.

"Credit to the Nepali boys, they played really well—especially Dev and Ishan," Shukla remarked, acknowledging that Oman has specific areas to work on regarding their bowling execution under pressure.

Focus on League 2

Despite the experimental nature of the practice matches, the Omani camp remains highly positive. Shukla mentioned that the team arrived in Nepal early to acclimate to the local conditions, a move supported by a dedicated coaching staff.

"The boys are boosted up for the League 2 series. We had a great series in Namibia and we are gaining that confidence here in Nepal as well," Shukla said. When asked about the target for the upcoming four matches in the official series, he maintained a grounded approach: "We are not thinking ahead of time; we are just taking one game at a time".

Oman is expected to revert to its primary starting XI and regular tactical setups once the official World Cup League 2 matches commence.
