Pradip is Veterans champion

Pokhara, Pradip Khadka of Pokhara has won the men's singles title in the 18th edition of 'Machhapuchche Bank Pokhara Open and Veterans National Tennis' tournament.

In the final match of the tournament organized by Kaski District Tennis Association at Pokhara Tennis Complex on Friday, Pradip defeated Arav Samrat Hada in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4. Along with the title, Khadka also received a cash prize of Rs 80,000.

In the Ganeshman National Tennis Championship held in Kathmandu last month, Khadka had lost to Arav by 6-3 and 6-1. Arav, the runner-up in the competition received a medal and certificate along with Rs. 40,000 in cash.

The women's singles title was won by Nepal's top seed Saloni Tamang on Thursday. Santosh Khatri won the singles' title in the over-35 years category. In the final, Santosh defeated Bhishma Gurung 6-0, 6-1. The winner Khatri received Rs 60,000 in cash and the runner-up Gurung received a trophy and medal along with Rs 30,000. Similarly, Chandra Shahi won the singles title over-45 years category. He defeated Bimal Kumar Gurung 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets.

The winner received a cash prize of Rs 40,000 and the runner-up Rs 20,000 in cash along with a trophy and a medal. In the men's doubles, Himal Shah and Raju Chhetri won defeating Binod Kayastha and Vikas Gurung of Pokhara in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2 to win the first prize. They received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and the runner-up received Rs 10,000. President of the association Lok Bahadur Gurung shared that a total of 130 athletes competed for the title in 11 different disciplines.
