Rashila Tamang makes a winning debut
Pahang, The women's race was won by Rashila Tamang of Kathmandu, Nepal, in 5:08! The runner from Team T8 Nepal had a fantastic debut on the ATM circuit, which bodes well for the remainder of the season and this year's championship. Sarawakian Sally Yap came in second, proving she can compete on runnable courses. The vice-ATM champion from the previous season, Sally, finished Koboi Malaya in 5h27. Chhiok Sherpa, the early race leader and a member of T8 Nepal, finished third despite missing a mark late in the race.
Although both Nepalese runners have shown their running prowess, they are probably even more at home in the mountains. Fourth place goes to Team La Sportiva Malaysia's Norlela Ismail, who achieved a fantastic result. Last year, Norlela was a finalist for an ATM. Isabelle Bedard of Canada, who started out in fifth position, was later demoted after succumbing to the marking's apparent inadequacy. Izzah Hazirah, a mountain runner, took over fifth place.
The Jerantut, Pahang, race delivered on its claim to be a "speed trail." After the start was delayed owing to heavy rain, runners started going in almost perfect conditions, and Milton Amat's finishing time says it all.
