Sharad Vesawkar Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Kathmandu, November 8:
After a remarkable two-decade-long journey in Nepali cricket, veteran middle-order batsman Sharad Vesawkar has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Vesawkar bid farewell to the national side following Nepal’s final match against the UAE in the ongoing Hong Kong Super Sixes on Sunday, where he also led the Nepali team as captain.

The 37-year-old cricketer began his journey in national colors in 2002, representing Nepal’s U-15 team, before making his senior national debut against the UAE in 2004.

Throughout his illustrious career, Vesawkar played a pivotal role in guiding Nepal to its first-ever ICC T20 World Cup appearance in 2014, where his experience and composure proved invaluable to the team’s success.

He was also instrumental in Nepal’s rise from Division Five to achieving One Day International (ODI) status in 2018, serving as one of the key players in the squad during that historic milestone.

Announcing his retirement from Hong Kong, Vesawkar expressed his gratitude through social media, thanking Nepal Cricket and its supporters for their love and encouragement throughout his career.

“Nepal Cricket has given me everything. Now it’s time to say goodbye. Thank you all for your constant support,” he shared in his farewell message.

Sharad Vesawkar leaves behind a legacy of commitment, consistency, and leadership — a name etched in the history of Nepali cricket as one of its most dependable and influential figures.
