KATHMANDU: South Africa national cricket team registered a commanding nine-wicket victory over West Indies cricket team in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday, marking their second consecutive win in the tournament.
Chasing a competitive target of 177 runs, South Africa comfortably reached 177/1 in just 16.1 overs, showcasing a dominant batting performance.
Captain Aiden Markram led from the front with an unbeaten 82 off 46 deliveries, smashing seven fours and four sixes. He was well supported by Ryan Rickelton, who remained not out on 45 runs from 28 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, opener Quinton de Kock provided a solid start with 47 runs off 24 balls, including four fours and four sixes, before being dismissed.
After being put into bat, West Indies suffered an early collapse, losing four crucial wickets in the fourth over. At one stage, they were struggling at 83/7 in 10.2 overs. However, a remarkable 89-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd revived their innings.
Holder scored 49 runs off 31 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes, while Shepherd remained unbeaten on 52 from 37 deliveries, striking three fours and four sixes. Their efforts guided West Indies to a total of 176/8 in 20 overs.
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi claimed three wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets each. Ngidi and Rabada both struck twice within their four-over spells, applying early pressure on the Caribbean side.
With this victory, South Africa have moved closer to securing a semifinal berth. They had earlier thrashed India by 76 runs in their opening Super 8 fixture, strengthening their position in the race for the knockout stage.
