Kathmandu, An agreement to formally sponsor the Nepali national women's football team was signed on Tuesday by the personal care company Unilever Nepal Limited (UNL) and the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

At a gathering in Kathmandu, Amlan Mukherjee, MD of UNL, and Pankaj Nembang, president of ANFA, exchanged memoranda of understanding. According to the agreement, UNL would give the women's national team aid worth Rs. 250,000. The agreement is valid for 12 months.

Additionally, UNL is the primary sponsor of the FIFA Women's World Cup, which begins on July 20.

Dig Bahadur Limbu, the Minister for Youth and Sports, was also present for the sponsorship agreement.

Minister Limbu expressed his gratitude to UNL for helping the women's team. "With few resources, Nepali women athletes are striving hard to improve the reputation of their nation. The private sector stepping in at a time when the government is unable to offer enough support is highly commended. The development of sports depends on the collaboration of the public and commercial sectors.

Anjila Tumbapo Subba, the captain of the national squad, complimented ANFA and UNL for giving women's football priority.

Such encouragement, according to her, will encourage new athletes to join the sport.

The agreement with UNL before to the FIFA Women's World Cup, according to ANFA President Nembang, is significant and has reenergized the Nepali women's team. According to President Nembang, ANFA has planned for Nepal to qualify for either the 2027 or 2031 world cup.

UNL is honoured to partner with ANFA in the advancement of women's football, according to MD Mukharjee. The women's football team will be supported and publicised in all ways as a result of our tight collaboration with ANFA. UNL wants to support the team's development and success as well as inspire the upcoming generation of female athletes.

In 1980, Nepal's first women's national team was established. The women's national team played Hong Kong in its first international game after six years. The 19th Asian Games, which will take place in China in September, will feature participation from Nepal.

In a recent match versus Bangladesh, Nepal defeated Bangladesh to win the FIFA International Women's Friendly Series.
