Subash Tamang Climbs to 25th in PGTI Order of Merit

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s top golfer, Subash Tamang, moved up three spots to 25th in the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Order of Merit following his impressive tied-10th finish at the Chennai Open on Friday.

Subash earned INR 192,350 from the tournament, taking his season’s total earnings to INR 1,954,858. The 2019 South Asian Games double gold medalist has played 13 tournaments this season, making the cut in 10 and registering four top-10 finishes, highlighting his growing consistency on the tour.

At the Cosmo-TNGF Golf Course, Subash closed with a two-under 70 for a 72-hole total of 11-under 277, sharing the 10th spot with Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain. His final round featured three birdies on the front nine before dropping shots on the 11th and 18th holes, despite a birdie at the 16th.

The Chennai Open title went to Sri Lanka’s N. Thangaraja with a 17-under 271, while Amardeep Malik, Shaurya Bhattacharya, and Manu Gandas finished joint runners-up at 16-under 272. Honey Baisoya secured fifth place at 14-under 273.

Subash’s rise in the PGTI Order of Merit further cements his status as Nepal’s leading golfer on the regional circuit.
