Sudurpashchim Wins Men’s Title at Second National Hockey Tournament

Kathmandu – Sudurpashchim Province clinched the men’s title at the Second National Hockey Tournament organized by the Nepal Hockey Association.

The final round-robin league match, held under floodlights at the Dasharath Rangasala in Tripureshwor, ended in a 2–2 draw between Sudurpashchim and Gandaki Province. Sudurpashchim secured the championship with 12 points, while Gandaki finished second with 9 points. Koshi Province placed third with 6 points.

In the women’s category, Gandaki Province topped the standings with 12 points, followed by Sudurpashchim with 9 points and Madhesh Province with 6 points. The top three teams in both men’s and women’s categories received cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000, and Rs 25,000 respectively.

In the men’s section, Mahesh Nepali of Sudurpashchim was named Best Player, Sangam Gharti Magar of Gandaki won Best Defender, Vivek Joshi of Sudurpashchim was adjudged Best Goalkeeper, Anish Khadka of Bagmati was declared Emerging Player, and Sudip Chaudhary of Koshi became the Highest Goal Scorer.

In the women’s section, Ankita Adhikari of Gandaki was named Best Player, Sanju Magar of Gandaki won Best Goalkeeper, Karuna Thagunna of Sudurpashchim was declared Best Defender, and Lakshmiyamkumari Das of Madhesh was selected as Emerging Player. Babita Uraon of Sudurpashchim emerged as the Highest Goal Scorer.

The winners were awarded by Bagmati Province Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain and National Sports Council Executive Committee Member Suvarna Shrestha, among others, during a special ceremony.

Except for Lumbini and Karnali provinces, five provincial teams each participated in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
