Kathmandu: Nepal are set to take on Italy today in their second match of the ICC T20 World Cup. The game will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, starting at 3:15 PM local time.
Both teams are playing their second fixture of the tournament. Nepal suffered a narrow 4-run defeat against England in their opening match, while Italy were beaten by Scotland by 73 runs.
With both sides placed in Group ‘C’, today’s match is considered vital as they look to keep their hopes alive of progressing to the Super 8 stage.
Nepal have prior experience playing at the Wankhede Stadium, which could work in their favor. Italy, meanwhile, arrived in Mumbai from Kolkata ahead of the match.
For Nepal, openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh are expected to be key run-scorers. Captain Rohit Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lokesh Bam, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, and Sher Malla form the core of the squad. However, improving bowling control in the death overs remains an area of concern.
Italy are making their T20 World Cup debut. Regular captain Wayne Madsen is unavailable due to injury. Key players for Italy include JJ Smuts, Grant Stewart, and the Manenti and Musaka brothers.
The clash is expected to be a competitive encounter as both teams fight to stay in contention for the next round.
