The first Milan Memorial Junior national TT from May 21
Kathmandu, Spin Events Pvt Ltd is set to organise the first Milan Memorial Junior Table Tennis Tournament from May 21 to 23 at National Table Tennis Training Centre in Lainchaur, Kathmandu.
The event to be organised in memory of late national table tennis player Milan Shrestha will feature three age-group events, the organisers said on Sunday. Each age-group event will have boys' and girls' singles categories. Apart from junior events, veterans will also compete in the tourney in three age categories.
All Nepal Table Tennis Association (ANTTA) will provide technical support for the event.
The junior players will vie in the U-18, U-15 and U-12 age categories in both boys' and girls' singles sections. The veteran event will have men's competition in above 40, above 50 and above 60 age categories.
The organisers expect a participation of around 350 junior players. The winners of the junior age categories will get cash prizes of Rs20,000 while the runner-up will take home Rs10,000 each. The two semi-finalists missing out on the final will get Rs5,000 each.
The winners and runners up of the veteran age groups will also get cash rewards of Rs10,000 and Rs5,000 respectively. The two semi-finalists will purse Rs2,000 each.
According to ANTTA President Chatura Nanda Raj Vaidhya, the event will hunt for new talents and provide an ideal platform for young players to showcase their skills.
“The event will be helpful in finding future national players,” said Vaidhya.
