To his preliminary national team roster, head coach Vincenzo added three more players
Kathmandu, Three additional players were added to Vincenzo Alberto Annese's preliminary national team roster for the men's team.
Santosh Khatri and Kushal Phuyal of Friends Club, as well as Hisub Thapaliya of Jawalakhel Youth Club, have been called up to the national team. The original team includes 33 members presently.
In an interview with ANFA Media, head coach Annese explained that the inclusion of three players was done to inspire them and offer them the opportunity to play for the national team. The athletes from Tribhuvan Army Club and Machhindra Football Club will also be involved in their respective club competitions, Annese continued.
In the AFC Cup Preliminary Stage, Machhindra will play Paro FC, and Tribhuvan Army will compete in the Durand Cup.
Players from Army and Machhindra who were called up for the original national team group will join the national team following the conclusion of their respective club championships, according to coach Annese. Beginning on August 1, the national team's private camp will open.
In the first round of the preliminary round of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Nepal was paired with Laos. According to the home and away format, the first leg of the match will be played on October 12 in Nepal, while the second leg will be played on October 17 in Laos.
If Nepal advances to the second round, it would compete in Group H with the UAE, Bahrain, Yemen's victor, and Sri Lanka. Between November 2023 and June 2024, home-and-away matches for the second round will be held.
