APF defeated the Army, and Church Boys defeated Machhindra to take the lead.
Kathmandu, Church Boys United improved to the top spot in the Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023 after defeating Machhindra Football Club 2-1.
Anjan Bista gave the Church Boys the lead in the game at the Satdobato ANFA Complex in the 41st minute. Omolaja Nurain Kareem's penalty kick in the 65th minute brought Machhindra and Church Boys even, but Kamal Shrestha's goal six minutes later gave Church Boys the victory.
As the 16th round of the league draws to a close, Church Boys now lead Jawalakhel Youth Club by three points. With 24 points, Machhindra is in fourth place.
APF Football Club won the departmental derby 3-0 over Tribhuvan Army Football Club in the other game at Dasharath Stadium.
When Army's substitute Youdha Shahi unintentionally placed the ball into his own net in the 41st minute, APF seized the lead. Bikesh Kuthu, the sprinting Army goalkeeper, was beaten by Armand Beadoum's strike, but it struck the upright. In an effort to clear the ball, a sliding Shahi sent the ball into his own goal.
Awas Lamichhane scored the second goal for APF in the 56th minute after taking advantage of an Army defensive blunder. Nabin Lama danced by a couple Army defenders six minutes later to win all three points.
With 22 points after the win, APF now sits one point ahead of Army in sixth place.
