In the opening youth ODI, Sri Lanka U19 defeated West Indies U19 by 41 runs

In the first of three youth ODIs played yesterday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka U19 defeated the West Indies U19 by 6 wickets with 41 balls remaining, with half centuries from Ravishan Nethsara, Supun Waduge, and Dinura Kalupahana.

The West Indies scored 223 runs in 49.1 overs while batting first, with Nathan Sealy getting 75 runs off 82 balls and hitting 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. Garuka Sanketh, a fast bowler, had outstanding stats of 5 for 48, and Dinura Kalupahan had 3 for 45.

By the fourth over, Sri Lanka U19 had lost two wickets for 11 runs. However, Ravishan Nethsara, who scored 65 off 85 balls with seven boundaries and a six, and Supun Waduge, who scored 56 off 78 balls with eight boundaries, rallied the team and added 134 runs for the third wicket. Together with his three wickets, Kalupahana's 52 from 42, which included seven boundaries and a six, sealed a strong all-around performance that helped the hosts win thanks to an outstanding 76-run partnership for the fourth wicket with 20-year-old Sharujan Shanmuanathan.

The best West Indian bowler, Nathan Edward, claimed 3 for 43.
