Nepal Chess Federation and Moscow Regional Chess Federation Sign MoU to Promote Chess

Kathmandu – The Nepal Chess Federation (NCF) and the Moscow Regional Chess Federation have signed a six-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Moscow to promote chess through friendship and cooperation.

The agreement focuses on mutual team visits, player training (including online), coach development, bilateral tournaments, and seminars. While the MoU does not create legal obligations, its primary goal is the promotion and development of chess in both countries.

The initiative was supported by former FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, with plans to organize Buddhist-nation chess tournaments in Russia and Nepal. Russia was represented by Sergey Karjakin, the youngest-ever Grandmaster, who praised Nepali youth players for their talent and dedication.

The partnership could also revive Russian scholarship programs for Nepali players, which previously benefited FM Bibek Thing, FM Rupesh Jaiswal, and Saurabh Pradhan.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward strengthening chess ties between Nepal and Russia and providing new opportunities for Nepali players to train and compete internationally.
